My name is Christopher Machon. I was born and educated in Guernsey and have spent my career as a marine and aircraft engineer. I’ve worked around the world in industries where precision and accountability are essential, and where results matter.
I’m not a career politician. I’m a practical problem-solver who believes in action. With three daughters living and working here and a son studying politics at university, I’m committed to building a fairer, more resilient future for Guernsey.
As a professional with hearing impairment, I understand the barriers that can exist, not only in the workplace, but in public life. I want to see a States that is more accessible, more inclusive, and better equipped to represent all
Manifesto
Housing
Too many islanders are priced out of the housing market while properties sit empty. We must act with urgency and common sense to rectify this.
- Bring empty homes and hotels back into use through clear incentives and direction.
- Prioritise affordable housing for islanders, especially young families and key workers.
- Release land and cut planning delays to fast-track housing projects.
- Support modern construction methods that lower costs without compromising quality, such as prefabricated homes.
Taxation
Guernsey needs a tax system that is fair, transparent, and economically sustainable.
- No tax increases without clear evidence that public money is already being spent wisely and efficiently.
- Oppose broad-based tax hikes that hit working families hardest, there is no one-size-fits-all.
- Support an honest, data-driven review of the tax options available to us and ensure everyone contributes fairly based on ability to pay.
Government Spending
Public spending must deliver optimal value to islanders. We must stop funding projects that fail to deliver real-world benefits.
- Focus spending on our core services: housing, health, education, and infrastructure.
- Reform trading boards to operate more efficiently and commercially, ensuring to reduce bureaucracy.
- Demand stronger oversight through regular audits and performance reviews of our public services.
Transport & Connectivity
Reliable connections are vital — both physical and digital.
- Launch a full review of Aurigny to improve overall reliability, cost control, and service.
- Treat digital infrastructure as essential for business, healthcare, education, and daily life.
Alderney Airport Redevelopment
The redevelopment has become unnecessarily complex and expensive. We need a practical and pragmatic solution.
- Use aircraft with short take-off and landing (STOL) capability suited to Alderney’s needs.
- Keep the runway under 800 metres to reduce cost and disruption.
- Focus on long-term value and safety over unnecessary expansion.
A Long-Term Vision
Good governance should work like good engineering — built to last.
- Support long-term planning that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and community wellbeing.
- Invest in sustainable infrastructure that
serves future generations.
Your Vote Counts
You have 38 votes in this election. I am respectfully asking for one.
A vote for me is a vote for practical experience, clear priorities, and action over talk. I will bring a strong work ethic, and accountability to the States Assembly, all underpinned by common sense.
