Cookies are used to:
- measure how you use the website, using Google Analytics, so it can be updated and improved based on your needs
- keep you logged in over the course of a browsing session so that you can select your candidate preferences and to keep track of the notifications you have seen so that they are not shown to you multiple times
Google Analytics stores information about:
- the pages you visit on GOV.GG
- how long you spend on each GOV.GG page
- how you got to the site
- what you click on while you're visiting the site

The site may also contain links to and from other websites. Usually, you will see a difference in the look of the web pages, flagging that you have gone into another website but if you are unsure, you can check the web address.
All the pages within this site start with www.election2025.gg, https://election2025.gg or election2025.gg. Election2025.gg is one of the various channels through which data can be sent from you to the States of Guernsey. The States of Guernsey will process any personal data that it collects in accordance with the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2017, which provides for your rights as a Data Subject. As this website is run by the States of Guernsey, the details/information listed out within the above link on ‘Data Protection’ on gov.gg are also relevant to election2025.gg.
To find out more about how the personal data the States of Guernsey receives about you via election2025.gg (or any other route) is processed, please refer to the fair processing notice for the area you are in contact with.
There are two ways your personal data could be used by the election2025.gg website:
Submitting a question to candidates
If you choose to submit a question to candidates using the relevant page, the information:
- is transmitted securely (encrypted) and stored on our secure servers
- is time-stamped on receipt and made available to the Corporate Communications team
- is only used to address your question and publish the question text on election2020.gg along with responses from candidates
- will identify you only by name, email address and age. You will also be asked whether the question is parish specific before typing in the question you would like to submit. Your personal information will not be shared on the election2025.gg website.
- is only used for the purposes detailed above unless there is a legal reason to pass it on or we have to enforce or apply our terms of use or other agreements.
Creating an account so you can save your preferences in regards to candidates ahead of voting
If you set up an account under ‘my candidates’, the information:
- will be held on this website
- is only used to assist you in the decision-making process as you save ‘yes’ ‘no’ and ‘maybe’ candidate profiles to your account in a preference list
- will identify you only by email address. To set up an account, you will need to set up an email address and a password.
If you choose to create an account, and save a preference list:
- the information is transmitted securely (encrypted) and time-stamped on receipt
- your account data (email address) is stored on a secure server (in the EU) and only accessible to authorised staff or suppliers
- your account data (email address) is only used for the purposes detailed above unless there is a legal reason to pass it on or we have to enforce or apply our terms of use or other agreements.
- your preference data (yes, no, maybe) is stored in a machine-readable format on a 3rd party server (independent from the States of Guernsey) and is accessible only to your account . It cannot be accessed or viewed by States of Guernsey staff and will not be shared with anyone. Once the election is over, all preferences will be securely deleted within 30 days.
We won't share your information with any other organisations for marketing, market research or commercial purposes and we don't pass on your details to other websites. However, please be aware that the information you submit will only be encrypted up to the point it is received by the website server. Onward transmission to relevant staff members is by unencrypted means (equivalent to sending an email), so (although still protected from being accessed by anyone outside the States of Guernsey) your information could be viewed by other staff or suppliers within the organisation. Data protection policies and good practice are in place to protect your data from misuse at all times.
