Anonymous Registration

If you, your family, or your property would be at risk of harm or damage if your name and address appeared on the Electoral Roll, you can apply to have your details omitted. If approved, your name and address will not be made public on the Electoral Roll.

Why Register Anonymously?

All voters must provide basic personal information to the Office of the Registrar-General of Electors to verify eligibility to vote. The key difference between standard and anonymous registration is how these details appear on the Electoral Roll and how the Registrar-General communicates with you.

On copies of the Electoral Roll available to candidates and for public inspection, and on copies used at polling stations on election days, your personal data will be replaced with a unique number, which only the Office of the Registrar-General can link to you.

How to Apply

Your application must be supported by either a current court document or an attestation from a suitably qualified person, proving that you, your family, or your property would be at risk if your name and address were included on the public Electoral Roll. A suitably qualified person is someone authorized by the Registrar-General. See the list of qualifying officers below.

The following court orders are accepted:

  • Non-molestation order (s15 Domestic Proceedings and Magistrate’s Court (Guernsey) Law, 1988
  • Ouster order (s15(1)b Domestic Proceedings and Magistrate’s Court (Guernsey) Law, 1988
  • Prohibited steps order (s17(1)(d) of the Children (Guernsey and Alderney) Law, 2008
  • Restraining order (s4 Protection from Harassment (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2005

The court document must be in force on the day you apply to register anonymously.

The Registrar-General will contact the court to confirm the validity of the court order you refer to in your application.
