What to Expect

Guernsey is a close-knit community, so Deputies tend to have closer and more frequent contact with members of the public than Parliamentary representatives in larger jurisdictions. It is therefore particularly important that Members of the States remain aware that they are representing the States of Guernsey and the island at all times, exhibit exemplary public behaviour, and ensure that even casual conversations with members of the public are carried out with care.

Public opinion about the States and States' Members is often influenced by the media, including the mainstream media and, increasingly, social media. States' Committees and service areas are supported by a small, professional communications team who can provide advice on communications strategies, media engagement, use of social media, and more.
